Born to Hustle: The perfect serve with sinalo ngcaba

Self-taught illustrator and graphic designer Sinalo Ngcaba is making a name for herself in Johannesburg. Her distinct graphic style features bold patterns and bright colours which is why we asked her to work with us to design an iconic glass for SXOLLIE.

1. Where does your inspiration come from?

“ From everyday life, the good and the bad, I’m inspired to make a change whether it’s raising awareness on human rights issues or just giving motivation in the form of fun visuals.”

2. What message are you trying to portray through your art?

“Hope and love, everything I do is based on that.”

3. What did you love about the SXOLLIE design brief?

“I love that I was given creative freedom.”

4. Talk us through the iconic glassware you designed for SXOLLIE

The illustration on the glassware has a pattern which is my main style trait, it’s like a closeup of fingerprints representing uniqueness. The two laughing people are in different colours and genders to represent togetherness regardless of where you are from. Inside the X are two hands joining in a “clink clink” of a refreshing SXOLLIE cider. You can sort of see the map of South Africa in the man’s beard and the map of Africa in her hair. The earrings are the SXOLLIE apple.

5. What's next for you as an artist?

Exploring new art mediums. I've got some exhibitions coming up which will be announced on my socials.

How can people find you or get in touch with you?
