THE PERFECT BRAAI FOR THE BANK HOLIDAY

The weather is sizzling up, and if you were in South Africa right now, you would undoubtably be prepping for your Bank Holiday Braai this weekend.

So, we thought we'd give you the perfect menu to make a truly South African feast!

BRAAIBROODJIE

No braai is complete without these, and one of our favourie chefs, JAN who happens to be the first South African chef to win a Michellin Star an a proud supporter of SXOLLIE came up with this awesome recipe.  Essentially, a braaibroodjie is a toastie made on an open flame, but for some reason it just tastes so much better!!! If you have some time - you should check out his Journal; mouthwatering! PAIRING: ANY SXOLLIE.

GRILLED PEACH SALAD ON THE BRAAI:

Now when it comes to salads, we Saffas aren't afraid to go bold.Colour, flavour and texture (in that order) are the priority. This salad fits the bill perfectly with the smoky sweetness of the grilled peaches opposing the saltiness of the goats cheese to perfection and those squishy blueberries with the crunch of the candied pecans just finishes this (and us) off! Like the famous apples used in SXOLLIE, South African is also famous for growing delicious stone fruit, like peaches and so this would be a dish we made at home often growing up. PAIRING: AGAIN, ANY SXOLLIE.

RIB-EYE

Nothing beats a great steak on the braai. We've picked a reciepe from the South African Woolworths Taste Magazine cause they always seem to get things just right! This brilliant rib-eye recipe is our go-to staple when cooking steak as the sauce is hmmmmm!

PAIRING: OH, PERHAPS ANOTHER SXOLLIE?

VEGAN RIBS

SXOLLIE is vegan, so for all you vegans - here's your meat-free delicacy.

DESSERT

No, one pudding is never enough, you certainly need at least two, and given our new-found fondness for once a day exercise now extended to ... well no one really understands, we certainly deserve these sweet treats - and these are CLASSIC!

MELKTERT

This is a traditional South African dessert, and TBH, it mostly reminds us of our aunties and grannies house, or a school bake-sale but perfect comfort food nonetheless. Apparently even Jamie Oliver has had a stab at this classic - though in our opinion he unknowingly ruined it by pouring caramel over the top - tut tut Jamie! However these guys at Your Family nailed it - see here! Tennis Biscuits can't be bought here, so apparently you can use Nice biscuits instead (whatever those are).  These also apply for the next recipe.

PAIRING: CAN YOU GUESS? ...A SXOLLIE.

next up...

KOEKSISTERS (UMM COOKING SISTERS?)

Now if you haven't unbuckled your jeans by now, these babies will send you over the edge... plaited knots of goodness! luckily you can freeze these and eat them later (or as we did as kids - eat them frozen!!).

PAIRING: BY THIS POINT YOU KNOW ... A SXOLLIE OF COURSE!
